What Is Scout And Cellar?
-Summary of Scout And Cellar-
Product Name: Scout And Cellar
Founders: Sarah Shadonix in 2017
Product Type: A Wine MLM(Multi-Level Marketing)
Price: $249 Business Basics Kit & $129.95 Annual Renewal Fee
Scout And Cellar is a wine MLM company that sells clean-crafted wine and offers a business plan for wine lovers. Compared to mass-produced wines in the market, the selling point of Scout and Cellar is that they make clean wines without additives or synthetic pesticides.
A wine labeled as clean-crafted goes through two rounds of independent lab testing to guarantee that it is free of yucky stuff. So, you don’t have to worry about what you are drinking.
However, is this a “work from home be your own boss” business opportunity? Let me share more details right below, so you will get enough information after reading this review to the end.
Inside Scout And Cellar
There are two things we are talking about today, one is the products, and the other is the business plan. Let’s start with the wines!
Scout and Cellar wines fall into the below categories:
- Red: Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel/Primitivo, Blends, etc
- White: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Sparkling White Wines, Blends, etc
- Sparkling: Red, White, and Wine Spritzers
- Rosé: Still Rosé Wines, Sparkling Rosé Wines, and Wine Spritzers
- Cans: Spritzers, Soda, white piquette, etc
Each wine has detailed information on its website page that talks about the year it’s made, where it’s made from, how it tastes like, what food to pair with, and what makes the wine so unique.
They do marketing quite well by a story-telling method instead of regular dry or sem-dry terms.
Other wine MLMs I’ve reviewed are Traveling Vineyard, OneHope Wine, and Boisset Collection. They are all selling wines and providing a business plan to make money. You can check each of them to pick the one that suits you the best.
What makes Scout and Cellar stand out from the crowd is the clean-crafted wines, which eliminate most of the artificial ingredients we see in mass-produced wines.
The founder sources worldwide, such as farmers, growers, family-owned wineries, and wine producers to make the clean-crafted wine.
They do two testings to guarantee no synthetic pesticides and chemical additives and have fewer than 100ppm of total sulfites. They hold the highest standard for providing people with clean wines.
How To Make Money With Scout And Cellar?
There are mainly two ways to make money with MLM companies. Scout and Cellar is no exception.
- Selling products to make commissions
- Recruiting people to become your downlines to hit group sales targets for extra bonuses and incentives
You don’t make money by recruiting people as your downlines, but you are getting bonuses and incentives from the sales your downlines make or sell. This is why we cannot call Scout and Cellar a pyramid scheme.
To become a consultant of Scout and Cellar, you can buy the Business Basics Kit at $249. It includes the below items:
- 4 Bottles of wine
- Insulated wine carrier for 6 bottles
- Winer makers
- Pulltaps corkscrew
- 1.5-ounce pouring spout
- Wine saver
- Your personal Scout and Cellar website for a year
- Business building materials
There is also a renewal of the consultant’s website and access to additional training programs and initiatives, which may be rolled out from time to time for best practice education and support. This is $129.95 for renewals occurring on or after 1/1/2021.
Scout And Cellar Affiliate Ranks
When you first start as a consultant, you need to sell wines and recruit people into the business to get promoted once you hit the sales target with specific numbers of downlines.
There is a total of 11 ranks with Scout and Cellar. The higher the ranks, the more requirements you must achieve in a given month.
Scout And Cellar Compensation Plan
Like other MLMs, the compensation plan is the pain in my head.
It usually is complicated to understand, and each MLM has its terms and fancy acronyms. Anyway, I am going to make things easier for you.
- Personal Volume Commission: 15-25% commissions of retail sales
- Fast Start Tasting Rewards: Earn a 4-bottle tasting set when you hit $600 PV in your first four months
- Fast Start Community Building Rewards: Earn $50 for each of your downlines who get Fast Start Tasting Rewards
- Personal Group Bonus: Earn 1% of the CV made by you and your group when you hit Executive Manager or higher
- Generation Bonus: 1%-3% of the CV from your Downline Generations when you hit Executive Manager or higher
- Infinity Bonus: 0.5%-1% of the CV from their downline, beginning with their 4th Downline Generation when you hit Executive Directors and higher
Feel sleepy now? Don’t worry! You can read the detailed compensation plan on this page.
How Much Do You Need to Sell to Stay Active?
When starting as a consultant, there is no monthly sales quota.
Once you are promoted to the second rank as Senior Consultant, it’s 200PV and 500DV in a given month. You may go back to Affiliate Ranks to see all requirements for each rank.
Ugly Truth About Scout And Cellar
TOP#1 Scout And Cellar Income Disclosure
Now, we’ve come to this review’s cruelest part: the income disclosure.
Based on the data offered in the compensation plan, I found some interesting numbers.
Scout and Cellar studied the sales performance of all active and inactive consultants in 2020, and they clearly showed the average annual income for each rank.
- 38.01% of all consultants made $37.26.
- 85.24% of all consultants made less than $1,000
- only 0.18% of all consultants made decent money
I don’t know about you; a 0.18% of success rate with this business opportunity doesn’t sound pleasant.
It’s not a “work from home and be your boss” opportunity. I suggest you become its customers if you love drinking, instead of being a consultant.
Imagine you make $37.26 after one year of hustling with people, selling wines, and introducing the business plan. Hard work didn’t seem to pay off.
TOP#2 Not Available In Every State
Scout and Cellar operates since 2017, and now they are offering business opportunities only for US residents at the moment.
Besides, every state has its own rules about wine delivery. Most states do allow the wine to be shipped to your front door, while the below states don’t. Before joining Scout and Cellar, make sure you are in the states that allow direct wine delivery.
- Rhode Island
- South Dakota
TOP#3 Useless Personal Website
You cannot take your orders from your personal website that comes inside the $249 Business Basics Kit, and those people you referred should purchase from the Scout and Cellar’s website & put you down as a consultant.
Making paying the $129.95 fee for owning your personal website is a waste, not to mention they don’t train you enough with internet marketing skills.
If your customers find out they could purchase the wines directly from the website, how do you keep them putting you as the consultant every time they buy?
What I Liked About Scout And Cellar
TOP#1 Clean-Crafted Wine
I have to admit that I love this idea, a clean-crafted wine. They are doing this to protect the planet and our health.
Regular and mass-production wines normally have GMO ingredients, cooper sulfate, synthetic pesticides, and other artificial ingredients that you won’t actually notice when you drink them. Things are totally different if you purchase Scout and Cellar wines.
TOP#2 Reasonable Prices
Unlike other MLMs that marked up 30-40% of the product prices, Scout and Cellar has products with reasonable prices.
In fact, the prices seem lower than my expectation since they promote their clean-crafted so hard on the website. Anyway, the prices are good if you like to become its customers.
TOP#3 Good Retail Commissions
The retail commission goes up to 25% if you can hit the sales target of $3,000 PV or higher, which is pretty good.
Can You Make Money Selling Scout And Cellar?
Yes, I am sure you can make money with Scout And Cellar, especially those extroverts who like to meet different people and talk about the same products over and over again. If you also love wines, then Scout and Cellar is the place to go.
Based on the income disclosure, only 0.18% of distributors make decent money per year. I don’t recommend you quit your 9-5 jobs and make this your primary income in the beginning since it’s far from enough to pay your bills, let alone support your family.
Is Scout And Cellar A Pyramid Scheme?
Let’s read Wikipedia’s definition of a pyramid scheme. “A pyramid scheme is a business model that recruits members via a promise of payments or services for enrolling others into the scheme, rather than supplying investments or sale of products.”
Based on this definition, we won’t call it a pyramid scheme.
Is Scout And Cellar A Scam?
No, it’s not a scam either. Typically, a scam or a pyramid scheme cannot survive the first year once people complain and report to the authority.
Scout And Cellar has clean-crafted wine and a business plan for wine lovers. If they were a scam, they couldn’t survive this long and keep growing for the next decade.

As I was reading this review I immediately thought of a program I had been involved in years ago. It is quite similar to the way you had to recruit people and sell products if you wanted to grow in the company. I found this to be very difficult especially since I had to go out and promote the product.
Thanks for the pros and cons. They were very informative.
I think I would rather have passive income instead of having to meet with people in person and promote a product.
I like the Wealthy Affiliate program. In fact, I joined them 6 months ago and have been very pleased. No one-on-one contact!
Thanks again for the post. I think this would suit people with outgoing personalities and ones who love wine!
I love to see you back on my site and share your past experiences with me & my readers here again. I hope this review helps you well. 🙂
The nature of MLM business opportunities is sales and recruitment. If you can do both well, you can make money with the compensation plan and commission structure. While less than 1% of members make decent money, 99% fail to earn with MLMs. That’s why I don’t recommend MLM businesses to my readers here on my blog.
Thanks a lot for backing me up. My recommendation, Wealthy Affiliate is indeed the best place for people interested in starting a blog to do affiliate marketing. I also love to connect with WA members here on my site, so if you have any problems and think that I could help, don’t hesitate to drop me a line inside WA. I’ll try my best to support you.
