What Is Nikken About?

-Summary of Nikken-

Product Name: Nikken
Founders:
Isamu Masuda in 1975
Product Type: A Health and Wellness MLM(Multi-Level Marketing)
Price: $99 to start
Recommend: No

Nikken is a health and wellness MLM company that sells many products to help boost people’s health. Isamu Masuda founded Nikken in 1975 and moved its headquarters from Japan to California, the USA, in 1988.

According to the founder, there are five pillars of health, and Nikken manufacture products to promote active wellness & help Nikken consultants on their path to financial wellbeing. These five pillars of health include:

  • Healthy Mind
  • Healthy Body
  • Healthy Family
  • Healthy Society
  • Healthy Finances

After operating for more than four decades, it made more than 1 billion in sales with millions of customers and consultants around the globe.

Is this a good business opportunity to make extra money? Let me share more details below, so you’ll get enough information to make the final decision.

Inside Nikken

They have a wide range of health and wellness products, and you can also join the business opportunity to sell Nikken products and recruit people into the system to make money. In that case, Nikken saves money on marketing or advertising, and you work from home to make money.

Product Lines

Nikken products fall into the below categories:

  • Nutrition: dietary supplements, weight management capsules, vegan drink mix, etc
  • Personal Care: skincare, haircare, and personal care products
  • Rest and Relaxation: sleep products, insoles, and magnetic products
  • Environment: Sports bottle, water filter, and shower system

The sleep system and the magnetic insoles are Nikken’s flagship products, using its flagship technology. They use magnetic technology that produces magnetic flux extending farther and penetrating more deeply, which helps fix some health issues.

They also create sleep masks, quilts, pillows & pillowcases, and thin mattresses for the sleep system. For the insoles, there are mSteps and mStrides. The question is, do those Nikken products work?

Do Nikken Products Work?

I don’t use Nikken products, so I cannot give you my firsthand experiences. I found other real customers’ reviews of Nikken insoles on Amazon, both positive and negative. I hope they help you well.

-The Positive Reviews-

-The Negative Reviews-

Knowing what products you will promote before joining any MLM business is vital, and it’s better if you can try the products yourself to get more experience.

If your customers have health issues, you can recommend them to the perfect Nikken products and fix their problems. Hence more sales.

How To Make Money With Nikken?

There are two ways to make money with Nikken:

  1. Selling Products: Sell Nikken products
  2. Recruiting: Recruit more people under your team to earn extra commissions, bonuses, and incentives when your team hits a specific sales volume.

Getting Started

You can choose to become a customer to consultant with Nikken. It’s free to join as a customer, and they will assign a consultant with personalized service, product expertise, helpful wellness information, and much more to help you start changing your life.

To become a consultant, you must pay $99 plus taxes, and the annual renewal fee is $79. These are only permissions to let you sell Nikken’s products and recruit people, no products included.

If you like to do in-person demonstrations or presentations, you need to buy some products at home and try them.

To be eligible for commissions, you must have at least 100PV monthly. 100PV is around $100. Now, we can calculate the total cost of joining Nikken for one year:

  • $99 join fee
  • 100PV every month($100*12=$1,200)

The cost is $1,299. Other costs, such as additional training, travel, gas, food, or miscellaneous expenses, are not included, so the total cost must be higher than my calculation here.

Nikken Compensation Plan

There is no compensation plan on the official website, but the below YouTube video discusses Nikken’s 2020 compensation plan, the most current one. You may watch it to get the details.

  1. Retail Sales Profit: Earn a 20% commission on every product you sell with a retail price
  2. Personal Commission Volume Rebate: Based on your rankings, you earn a 5%-20% rebate from the Nikken products you purchased
  3. Personal Group Commission Volume: Earn an extra 5%-20% when you help your team grow
  4. Leadership Bonus: Earn a bonus (6%) on the volume generated by any of your recruits when they get promoted to Silver ranking or above.

If you don’t like to make things complicated, remember two things to do as Nikken Consultants:

  • Sell as many Nikken products as possible to anyone for commissions
  • Recruit as many consultants as possible to make team sales so that you can get extra bonuses and incentives.

How Much Do You Need to Sell to Stay Active?

To be an active Nikken member, you must at least have 100PPV(personal point volume) per month. 100PPV is around $100.

Ugly Truth About Nikken

TOP#1 Expensive Products

Like other health & wellness MLM, Nikken’s products are pretty expensive than those you can find online or in the retail store.

It’s the same for every health & wellness MLM company, such as Modere, Xyngular, and Total Life Changes, so they can pay their distributor’s commissions.

Taking Nikken’s Kenzen® Joint as an instance, it costs $46.8 for 90 capsules. I find similar products with the highest ratings on Amazon that only cost $9-$10 per bottle.

I believe they have similar health benefits to human bodies, so what is the point of selling 4-5 times more expensive products to anyone when they can find other affordable ones online? What makes Nikken products stand out from the crowd?

TOP#2 Low Income Potential

Let’s read some numbers about the average annual income that Nikken consultants make. The most current income disclosure I can find online is the 2016 version.

For the latest version, Nikken might only provide it to the consultants. I believe the numbers didn’t change much, so it still gets value as a reference.

  • 85.96% make less than $1,000 per year
  • 12.17% make $1,000-$3,000 per year
  • 1.31% make $18,322 per year
  • only 0.57% make more than $102,625 per year, and the average month achieving this status is 22.5 years.

Making $18,322 or less is not enough to pay your bills, let alone support your family.

The chance to make money with Nikken is relatively low. It would be better if you find a job in a local fast-food restaurant or start trying to make money online.

TOP#3 No Science Evidence

Nikken uses magnetic technology in their products, but scientific evidence is that magnets amuse, not provide health benefits.

It said that “Transcranial magnetic stimulation has diagnostic and therapeutic uses, but the effects are due to the electrical field, not to magnetism.”

Nikken also mentions it clearly on this page, and it said: Nikken products are not considered and never offered or intended as medicines or medical treatment for any disease or disorder, either physical or mental.

You cannot promote the health benefits that Nikken products may bring; otherwise, you might get into trouble.

What I Liked About Nikken

TOP#1 The Longevity

More than half of new businesses fail during the first year, 45% during the first five years, and 65% during the first ten years.

Isamu Masuda built Nikken in 1975, and now 47 years have passed, and they are still surviving. This proves it’s not a scam but a legitimate MLM company.

TOP#2 A 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee

If you are unsatisfied, the product may be returned to Nikken within 30 days after purchase.

If the returned product is in resalable condition, they will refund on selling price less the original shipping fee + less a 10% handling fee.

Can You Make Money Selling Nikken?

Yes, you can make money with Nikken, especially extroverts who love to see different people every day and share their passions after getting exceptional results from Nikken products.

However, I just showed you their 2016 income disclosure in the previous paragraph, and there is only 0.57% of Nikken consultants make decent money per year. The rest of the consultants only end up losing money and becoming Nikken’s most loyal customers.

Is Nikken A Pyramid Scheme?

No, it’s not a pyramid scheme. Let’s read Wikipedia’s definition of a pyramid scheme.

“A pyramid scheme is a business model that recruits members via a promise of payments or services for enrolling others into the scheme, rather than supplying investments or sale of products.”

Nikken is not a pyramid scheme because it offers many products that help boost people’s health.

Is Nikken A Scam?

No, it’s not a scam either. Typically, a scam or a pyramid scheme cannot survive the first year once people complain and report to the authority.

Nikken has operated for more than four decades. If it was a scam, it couldn’t survive this long and keep growing for the next decade.

When it comes to making money online, there are plenty of options on the internet, such as freelancing, dropshipping, GPT sites, drop services, or affiliate marketing. Wanna know my top pick?

My Alternative Way to Make Money Online

My alternative way to make money online is through affiliate marketing instead of promoting Nikken products in person.

Imagine you sell Nikken products to your friends, family, or anyone you know. Don’t you feel embarrassed or blushed? They might avoid you ever since.

Doing affiliate marketing will save you from that:

  • It’s free to start your affiliate marketing business.
  • You don’t need to buy physical products and sell them face to face.
  • There is no monthly minimum sales quota in affiliate marketing.
  • You don’t recruit people to become your downlines to build a team.
  • You are not restricted to promoting one product. You can promote anything you like!
  • Work on your schedules & you are your OWN BOSS!

You only need to start a blog with quality content. So every time people land on your site to read your product reviews or other articles, they will find insight and value.

If they like it, they may purchase the products or services via your links. Here come your earning potentials.

  1. Great review, Matt! I’m not too fond of companies who are trying to sell their products for so much money.
The natural way is the only approach in my eyes to heal and stay healthy, combined with coffee enemas and fasting, consuming organic high nutritious juice powders, eating healthy, and moving. There is no way around this. So before I buy an isolated product for $46, I would rather buy a high-quality green powder and probiotics.

The system they use for making money is well-known. Years back, I used Mary Kay, the same kind of money-making system, but I am an introvert, so it didn’t work for me. And I don’t stand all the hype to manipulate me into joining the system to make money.
You mentioned Wealthy Affiliate, and they are really excellent to study affiliate marketing and earning big money. If someone loves to live a laptop lifestyle, that is the right platform. The support and learning are excellent! Thank you very much for your very detailed and informative article, Matt! 🙂

    • Hi Sylvia,

The MLM companies mark up 30-40% of the product prices to pay a small percentage to their distributors for doing the promotions. It’s like a stone kills two birds. They have someone to purchase their products consistently without worrying about the cost of marketing and advertising. However, the success rate is just too low to ignore.

I prefer affiliate marketing to make money online, and I am glad you also like my recommendation, Wealthy Affiliate. I am always fascinated by the online & LIVE training, the complimentary keyword research tool, and other powerful features of the platform that help me start a blog to run my online business. I am sure people will love it as I did if they take the free 7-day trial today. 🙂

      Cheers,
      Matt

  2. For me, with MLM it always comes down to the often confusing compensation plan. They throw in all these bonuses that so many never achieve creating a business that in my opinion just isn’t sustainable. This one is no different. Nicely written.

    • Hi Eric,

Yes, the compensation plan makes me confused, and I felt dizzy after reading them. It focuses heavily on recruitment, so 99% of people fail to make money with it, let alone turn actual profits after working their butt off. I don’t suggest people try MLM business because it is just too difficult to achieve something.

On the other hand, affiliate marketing is the answer for people interested in making money online. I landed on this platform in 2019 and started creating stable online income streams recently. I hope you will like it too. 🙂

      Cheers,
      Matt
