How Much Do You Need to Sell to Stay Active?

When you share Nature’s Sunshine with friends and they make purchases, you earn a percentage of the purchases as credits to use on future purchases.

For premium membership, this is waived for the first 12 months. Meaning you get rewarded for your referrals’ purchases regardless of your personal activity.

Ugly Truth About Nature’s Sunshine

TOP#1 Expensive Products

Same as other MLM companies, their products are really expensive compared to the competitors in the market. Taking vitamins as an instance, Nature’s Sunshine Vitamin B Complex 100 tablets cost $23.3 retail & $16.3 Subscribe & Thrive.

If you find similar products on Amazon, you’ll be surprised. Some products with 100 tablets only cost $7-9. They have the same benefits for our body, so I don’t really see the point of purchasing two-times expensive products when there are affordable ones.

TOP#2 Saturated & Competitive Market

When it comes to the health & wellness niche, there are many competitors in the market, whether they are MLM companies or normal companies. You must have some names flashed through your mind, right?

I’ve reviewed many MLM companies here on my website, name a few here to prove my points:

With all the competitors here, you really need to understand what you are getting yourself into and know what makes Nature’s Sunshine products stand out from the crowd…

TOP#3 SEC Bribery Lawsuit

In 2009, Nature’s Sunshine agreed to pay $600,000 in fines after being charged by the SEC(U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission) with having bribed Brazilian officials with more than one million in 2000 and 2001.

This was done so Nature’s Sunshine could import unregistered nutritional products into the country, and then falsified its books to hide the payments.

What I Liked About Nature’s Sunshine

TOP#1 The Longevity

It’s often said that more than half of new businesses fail during the first year, 45% during the first five years, and 65% during the first 10 years.

Gene and Kristine Hughes founded Nature’s Sunshine back in 1972, now 49 years passed, they are still surviving in the industry. This proves that it’s not a scam, but a legitimate MLM company with good quality products.

TOP#2 No Minimum Requirement

Unlike other MLMs, there is no minimum requirement for every month, so you won’t have s stockpiling issue.

However, if you want to qualify for sharing reward, you must either make a personal purchase or refer a new customer to Nature’s Sunshine every 90 days. I think it’s not difficult to achieve since everyone purchases one of the dietary supplements these days.

TOP#3 High-Quality Products

As the pioneer of encapsulating herbs into capsules and tablets, they have a top standard of raw material sourcing, quality In-house manufacturing, and finished product testing. All of these contribute to its high-quality products.

Can You Make Money Selling Nature’s Sunshine?

Yes, you can make money by selling Nature’s Sunshine products, especially extroverts who love to see different people every day and share your exceptional positive results after trying their products.

Based on the income disclose, only 3.43% of active distributors make more than $5,000+ per year. I don’t know about you, $5,000 is not enough for living expenses no matter which state you are living in, let alone support your whole family.

Is Nature’s Sunshine A Pyramid Scheme?

According to Wikipedia’s definition of a pyramid scheme, a pyramid scheme is a business model that recruits members via a promise of payments or services for enrolling others into the scheme, rather than supplying investments or sale of products.

By the definition, Nature’s Sunshine is not a pyramid scheme because it offers many dietary supplements to help people’s health issues.

Is Nature’s Sunshine A Scam?

No, Nature’s Sunshine is not a scam at all. I would say it’s better to be its customers instead of associates because 95% of them lose money, so I won’t recommend my readers to join it.

Meanwhile, when it comes to making money online, there are plenty of options on the internet, such as freelancing, dropshipping, GPT sites, or affiliate marketing. Wanna know my top-pick? Read on to find out more!

My Alternative Way to Make Money Online

My alternative way to make money online is through affiliate marketing instead of promoting Nature’s Sunshine products in person. Try to imagine you sell Nature’s Sunshine products to your friends, family, or anyone you know. Don’t you feel embarrassed or blushed? They might avoid you ever since.

Doing affiliate marketing will save you from that:

  • It’s free to start your affiliate marketing business.
  • You don’t need to buy physical products and sell them face to face.
  • There is no monthly minimum sales quota in affiliate marketing.
  • You don’t recruit people to become your downlines to build a team.
  • You are not restricted to promote one product. You can promote anything you like!
  • Work on your own schedules & you are your OWN BOSS!

You only need to create a website with quality content. So every time people land on your site to read your products reviews or other articles, they will find insight and value. If they like it, they may purchase the products or services via your links. Here come your earning potentials.

  1. I joined an MLM company very similar to Natures Sunshine some years ago and never made any money. Just like Natures Sunshine, the products were high quality but expensive. Being introverted in nature, I found it hard selling to people I didn’t know. The compensation plan looks good in theory, but you need to work really hard at recruiting and not be put off by rejection. I totally agree that affiliate marketing is a far better option for making money online. With the right training and hard work, it’s possible to replace your day job. As a Wealthy Affiliate member myself I can vouch for the excellent training and friendly community:)

    • Hi Kathy,

Thanks a lot for sharing your own experiences of joining an MLM in the past. I am just like you, introverted, so I didn’t go on the route when I first attempt to make extra money to support my financial status. I also agree the compensation plan of Nature’s Sunshine is good in theory. However, you still need to do lots of recruiting to bring people underneath your organization to make more sales for more commissions. It’s just NOT my thing.

On the other hand, affiliate marketing is the best method for introverted people like you and me. We could start a blog, find a niche that we have passions in, and promote affiliate products to make money online. I cannot think of another way better than this. 🙂

      Cheers,
      Matt

  2. It’s astounding that this company has been around for so long, that actually speaks well of them. They must be doing it right and their products must be good. Well, except for those negative comments, but one can get those for even the best products. I just don’t like the MLM business model and wouldn’t sign up for it. I do like, however, that they have an affiliate program. You mentioned in the beginning that this is not recommended, but is the affiliate program with Natures Sunshine worth it?

    • Hi Christine,

Thanks for stopping by and leaving your comment on my Nature’s Sunshine review. I hope it helps you well. 🙂

For its affiliate program, I would say if you are a huge fan of Nature’s Sunshine and love using the products, then it’s good to go. You may share the products that work well for you with your friends to gain more chances to make money. Not to mention they have tons of health & wellness products for most health topics.

The best way to do this is to start a blog to promote many products from different companies, just like a real affiliate marketing business. You will not be tied up with only Nature’s Sunshine, and it’ll be so much fun to promote all the health supplements you like on your website, right?

      Cheers,
      Matt

  3. Hi Matt,
Great review on Natures Sunshine. MLMs are not an easy market to break into for many people, although some folks have no problems with it. If Natures Sunshine products are also super expensive when compared to other similar products on the market, it makes the job a lot more difficult peddling them to family and friends.

Affiliate marketing, if done right, is a proven and time-tested way to generate income online – without targeting and selling to your family and friends. The Wealthy Affiliate platform, as recommended, is a great alternative and even offers a free trial it seems.
    Thanks

    • Hi Ceci,

MLM companies tend to mark up 30-40% of the product prices to pay a small percentage to their distributors. If the distributors cannot sell the products to stay active, they may purchase the minimum sales quota for themselves. That makes them the most loyal customers eventually. So, MLM companies save costs on marketing and advertising without worrying about the sales since distributors will sell or purchase the products. It’s like a stone kills two birds for every MLM company, but it’s not good for everyday people(you and me!)

And thanks for backing me up here! My recommendation, Wealthy Affiliate is indeed the best platform for affiliate marketing newbies to start with. It has legitimate white-hat training, one keyword research tool, and many powerful features like hidden gems. I am happy using it since day one of becoming a premium member. I am sure people will love it as I do. 🙂

      Cheers,
      Matt
