To become an affiliate, you can sign up for free and earn 15% on every order made by someone you refer to Nature’s Sunshine. You also get fast pay & free products.
To become a consultant, you need to be of legal age and pay for a $40 starter kit. They also provide two plans you can join, Subscribe & Thrive and Premium Membership.
Subscribe & Thrive plan is more like for Nature’s Sunshine’s loyal customers, and you will get 25% off from your subscribed items.
They deliver the products to you and your family use monthly with your preferred delivery schedule, so you don’t have to remember to place an order. There is also no minimum purchase.
Premium Membership is designed for people who love having a 20% off everyday purchases, 10% off sales items, exclusive premium deals, and early access to sale events.
Nature’s Sunshine Compensation Plan
Nature’s Sunshine offers you many ways to earn as a consultant:
- 5 levels of rewards when your downline consultants purchase and resell products
- Purchase products at a consultant discount and resell them at retail
- Up to 20% rewards on product purchases made by people referred by your consultants or customers
- Up to 10% rewards on product purchases made by people referred by customers in the groups of your consultants
- Plus 15% cash rewards through our customer/affiliate sharing plan
Having a headache now? Don’t worry. Simply put, you earn rewards based on the sales of customers you referred or your downline consultants referred.
So, you need to sell more products or recruit more people to become your downlines to hit group sales targets.
How Much Do You Need to Sell to Stay Active?
When you share Nature’s Sunshine with friends, and they make purchases, you earn a percentage of the purchases as credits to use on future purchases.
To qualify for this, you must either make a personal purchase or refer a new customer to Nature’s Sunshine every 90 days.
For consultants, you must have at least 300GV per month to be eligible for commissions and incentives. This can be made of personal or customer sales.
Now, we could calculate the total cost of becoming a Nature’s Sunshine consultant:
- $40 signup fee
- 300 GV per month, $300*12=$3,600
You may spend $3,640. Other costs, such as additional training, travel, gas, food, or miscellaneous expenses, are not included, so the total cost must be higher than my calculation here.
Ugly Truth About Nature’s Sunshine
TOP#1 Expensive Products
Same as other MLM companies, their products are costly compared to the competitors in the market. Taking vitamins as an instance, Nature’s Sunshine Vitamin B Complex 100 tablets cost $23.3 retail & $16.3 Subscribe & Thrive.
If you find similar products on Amazon, you’ll be surprised.
Some products with 100 tablets only cost $7-9. They have the same benefits for our bodies, so I don’t see the point of purchasing two-times expensive products when there are affordable ones.
TOP#2 Saturated & Competitive Market
When it comes to the health & wellness niche, there are many competitors in the market, whether they are MLM companies or not. You must have some names flashed through your mind, right?

Based on Nature’s Sunshine’s 2021 Income Disclosure, I see interesting numbers.
- 35% of active consultants make $0
- 86% of active consultants make less than $1,000
- 4% of active consultants make $10,000+
I believe most consultants fail to make money online. If they count all the consultants in this income disclosure, the actual earnings will be much lower.
Can you stand the pain if you make less than $1k annually? So don’t quit your 9-5 jobs and take this as your primary income source. It’s risky.

Great review on Natures Sunshine. MLMs are not an easy market to break into for many people, although some folks have no problems with it. If Natures Sunshine products are also super expensive when compared to other similar products on the market, it makes the job a lot more difficult peddling them to family and friends.
Affiliate marketing, if done right, is a proven and time-tested way to generate income online – without targeting and selling to your family and friends. The Wealthy Affiliate platform, as recommended, is a great alternative and even offers a free trial it seems.

MLM companies tend to mark up 30-40% of the product prices to pay a small percentage to their distributors. If the distributors cannot sell the products to stay active, they may purchase the minimum sales quota for themselves. That makes them the most loyal customers eventually. So, MLM companies save costs on marketing and advertising without worrying about the sales since distributors will sell or purchase the products. It’s like a stone kills two birds for every MLM company, but it’s not good for everyday people(you and me!)
And thanks for backing me up here! My recommendation, Wealthy Affiliate is indeed the best platform for affiliate marketing newbies to start with. It has legitimate white-hat training, one keyword research tool, and many powerful features like hidden gems. I am happy using it since day one of becoming a premium member. It’s astounding that this company has been around for so long, that actually speaks well of them. They must be doing it right and their products must be good. Well, except for those negative comments, but one can get those for even the best products. I just don’t like the MLM business model and wouldn’t sign up for it. I do like, however, that they have an affiliate program. You mentioned in the beginning that this is not recommended, but is the affiliate program with Natures Sunshine worth it?

For its affiliate program, I would say if you are a huge fan of Nature’s Sunshine and love using the products, then it’s good to go. You may share the products that work well for you with your friends to gain more chances to make money. Not to mention they have tons of health & wellness products for most health topics.
The best way to do this is to start a blog to promote many products from different companies, just like a real affiliate marketing business. You will not be tied up with only Nature’s Sunshine, and it’ll be so much fun to promote all the health supplements you like on your website, right?

I joined an MLM company very similar to Natures Sunshine some years ago and never made any money. Just like Natures Sunshine, the products were high quality but expensive. Being introverted in nature, I found it hard selling to people I didn’t know. The compensation plan looks good in theory, but you need to work really hard at recruiting and not be put off by rejection. I totally agree that affiliate marketing is a far better option for making money online. With the right training and hard work, it’s possible to replace your day job. I am just like you, introverted, so I didn’t go on the route when I first attempt to make extra money to support my financial status. I also agree the compensation plan of Nature’s Sunshine is good in theory. However, you still need to do lots of recruiting to bring people underneath your organization to make more sales for more commissions. It’s just NOT my thing.
On the other hand, affiliate marketing is the best method for introverted people like you and me. We could start a blog, find a niche that we have passions in, and promote affiliate products to make money online. I cannot think of another way better than this. 🙂
