How Can You Earn Points On MyPoints?

There are so many ways to earn your points on this platform, and those are just our daily online routine.

Paid Surveys

This is the first thing that comes to people’s minds when they think about making money online. Yes, you can do surveys on MyPoints. Each survey will take you approximately 15 minutes to finish and it pays out around 90 points per survey. Some surveys pay out higher, which also means it takes longer to complete.

If you got kicked out and disqualify for a survey, you still get 10 points. You would always get paid whether you complete or not.

There are all kinds of surveys that you can take on MyPoints, ranging from automobiles, fashion, travel, to home and garden. So, don’t worry that you only get a certain type of survey.

If you like shopping, this is good news for you. You can shop over 1,900 popular retailers on MyPoints to earn points from your purchase. For all the shops on MyPoints, feel free to check HERE.

Tips: Spend $20 or more on any stores through MyPoints site in the first 30 days of membership and you will get 1,750 points, which are redeemable for a $10 Gift Card of your choice.

Watch Video & Play Games

You can earn points by watching video playlists on your favorite topics(no kidding), and this is the easiest among all the other options. Or, you can play games when you feel tired and dizzy after doing lots of paid surveys for a rest.

Read Emails

Don’t you know reading mails could make money? MyPoints will send out emails to your inbox, and you earn 5 points clicking the link in that emails. It takes about 10-15 seconds to read each email, and it’s not bad to earn quick points by reading emails.

Search The Web

Ditch Google and do your searches on MyPoints! The results are similar to Yahoo! web search and MyPoints gives you a chance to earn up to 170 points randomly.

Print Coupons

People have been using coupons for shopping since 1880, so I think there is no extra explanations needed.

This is the way to combine online and offline activities to make money with MyPoints. You can choose the coupons for the shops you do your grocery shopping or the shops you would like to visit.

After you choose the coupons and print them out, you go shopping with the coupons you just print. Every time you shop with the MyPoints coupons, you earn 25 points and 1 extra point per coupon printed.

Referral Plan

You earn 25 points by referring anyone you know, and you also get 10% of all points they earn. If the person you directly referred spends $20 or more shopping on MyPoints in the first 30 days, you can get an additional 750 points and 1,750 points for them.

How Much Are Points Worth?

I am curious about the value of the points, so I went to the Redemption page for more details. Once I clicked the “Go Redeem” button, I can see there are many options that I can choose.

Just like I mentioned above, you get 1,750 points to exchange for a $10 Gift Card. Let’s do a quick calculation here:

$10 Gift Card / 1750 points = $0.0057 / per point.

So, if 3 paid surveys make 270 points, that would mean your hourly wage is $0.0057*270 points= $1.5(What!)

How Much You Can Earn On MyPoints?

People ask this question all the time, and I know you probably have the same concern. I don’t have a fixed answer to this question because it depends on the time and your effort spend on MyPoints.

How much you can get paid completely depends on how many activities you attempt and complete. Meaning the more activities you do on MyPoints, the more rewards you can get.

What Can You Redeem Points For?

There are mainly two ways to redeem you points once you reach the minimum threshold for each option:

  1. PayPal Cash: $25 minimum payout to your PayPal account, and it takes 4-5 days to process.
  2. eGift Cards: $10 minimum payout for Gift Cards, you can choose the store you want to shop. Redemption time varies based on the store you choose.

Who Is MyPoints For?

People who live in the USA or Canada and have lots of time doing different kinds of online activities to make a few bucks back. For my parents, if they are happy doing MyPoints to kill time after retirement, I have no opinions. But, if you ask me whether I would join MyPoints, my answer is “NO”!

I value my time, so I would choose another alternative to make money online instead of MyPoints. I will share my alternative in one minute. Stay tuned for my secret!

Ugly Truth Of MyPoints

TOP#1 Low Income Potential

As I mentioned above, 1,750 points to exchange for $10 gift card. One point equals $0.0057, and your hourly wage is close to $1.5 if you are lucky and complete three surveys with 90 points. If you face the technical issues and got kicked out in the middle of any survey, you would only get 10 points.

Remember? Scroll/Slide up to read again. So, it’s highly possible that your hourly rate could be lower than my calculation – $1.5 / per hour.

Comparing to the minimum hourly wage of the USA($7.25), you will be much better if you get a job in a fast-food restaurant.

TOP#2 A Terrible Customer Service

I love to check the BBB page for the company that I want to buy the products from in order to know what others complain about. Same for MyPoints. Here are what I found:

It seems that MyPoints didn’t reply to all complaints on time to help members clear their questions or the technical issues. For a company that runs business longer than two decades, we expect a higher standard of customer service from MyPoints.

But, what can you expect from a rewards site?

TOP#3 Only Available In the USA Or Canada

For people who land in this article but don’t live in the USA or Canada, I have to say sorry, you cannot join MyPoints. MyPoints mainly focuses on the North America market and they don’t get many business inquiries from your geographic location, so that’s probably the reason why you cannot join MyPoints.

Don’t take it personally, it’s just the way MyPoints does business.

What Do I Like About MyPoints?

TOP#1 A Long History

To be honest, 5 out of 10 new companies cannot make it work during the first five years. When we look at MyPoints, a rewards site that exists longer than two decades, it definitely knows some know-how to do things right for both clients and the members.

It’s safer to join MyPoints than the newbies to get your first taste of making money online. But, I am not saying you cannot make money with new rewards sites. It’s just my preference.

TOP#2 Many Options To Earn Points

When it comes to rewards sites, people tend to think that there is only a paid survey on the platform. Come on! Things have changed a lot.

To avoid monotony, MyPoints does provide many options for all members to earn points, so you don’t need to worry about being bored only doing paid surveys.

What I like the most about MyPoints is that you do your online routine and get money simultaneously. It doesn’t look like a part-time job because those tasks are indeed the things we are doing online every single day.

TOP#3 On the Go

I feel bored when I stuck in the traffic, now I get a chance to kill the time by MyPoints app on my smart devices. That could make the time flowing faster than the time I used to feel suffocating.

Or, I go out eating with my friends, but they tell me that they need another 30 minutes(usually longer) when I just arrive at the restaurant. What can I do? Yes, take your phone out and earn points anywhere and anytime.

As of this writing, I guess you are on bed or sofa searching for ways to make money online, so this is a very comfortable way if we ignore the low-income potential, right?

Is MyPoints A Scam?

No, MyPoints is not a scam at all based on my findings. It is a legitimate rewards site that pays out to people who spend lots of time doing online activities but just earn a little.

Before you proceed to sign up with MyPoints, let’s rewind again for things that I don’t like much from it.

  • The Low Income Potential, it’s sufficient to get you $25-$50 per month. If you are talking about $200-$500, that would be another fairy tale.
  • A terrible customer service, you might face you cannot log in to earn points, your account gets terminated, or payout issues from MyPoints, but MyPoints could only answer and help you after a long while.
  • MyPoints is only available In the USA or Canada, not everyone around the globe can join.

If you have “Nah!” for any above, I believe you are interested in my alternative to make money online:

My Alternative Way to Make Money Online

My alternative way to make money online is through Affiliate Marketing instead of doing all kinds of online activities on MyPoints.

Doing affiliate marketing will save you with the below:

  • You don’t need to spend lots of time and just make a few bucks back.
  • You also need to worry about the customer service part because the company behind the products will be responsible for that.
  • You can do affiliate marketing from every corner of this planet we are currently living.

You need to create a website/blog, YouTube channel, or Facebook/Instagram with quality content that makes people trust you then purchase through your links.

The platform I am using currently is Wealthy Affiliate. The reasons for “Why Wealthy Affiliate?” are for all the training courses, every Friday night LIVE training courses, 24/7 sitesupport, and the most friendly community.

  1. Hi Matt,

Well, I said before that I don’t like these types of businesses because the return for the time you put in is very poor – I just didn’t realise how poor..!!

US$1.50/ hour is definitely not the best use of my time!

Still, I do like your suggestions of earning some points while waiting for meal companions who are late. Over time you will make a bit of money.

But it’s certainly not something I would look to for a revenue stream!!

    • Hi Martin,

Yes, I agree with you, and I think paid survey sites might be the last option I would make money online. Your time spent on the site is proportional to what you earn, and I hope every one could get the same conclusion as we did. It’s alright to make a few bucks when you stuck in the traffic or need to wait for your friends, but it’s not something I would invest all my time for.

The best way to make money online is still through Affiliate Marketing. You got me! 🙂

  2. Hi Matt,

At first I thought it looked like a good company, because they still give you 10 points even if you don’t qualify for a survey, but it turns out that 10 points is not much … Earning potential is low, and you would have to spend much time online to get just a little bit of cash. That doesn’t seem worth it to me …
Good customer service is extremely important to me, and the fact that their customer service is poor is another turn off for me. The people who complained had some serious issues that do not seem to be dealt with …
I think that if you want to make money online, the more lucrative way would be affiliate marketing. It requires more work than filling out surveys, and that is why it will lead to a higher income. You want to make money, you got to work for it, right? 😉

    • Hi Christine,

Yes, the low earning potential is always the pain in the neck for all GPT sites, so they won’t be my top choices when it comes to making money online. I am the same as you, affiliate marketingaffiliate marketing!

People could do affiliate marketing to promote things they LOVE instead of just filling out online surveys with little returns. This is the platformthe platform that I use at the moment, feel free to check it if you have interests. 🙂
