What is MyPoints?
-Summary of MyPoints-
Product Name: MyPoints
Founders: founded by Dan Kihanya and Noah Doyle in 1996, now owned by Prodege
Product Type: Get-Paid-To(GPT) site
Price: FREE to join
Recommend: No
MyPoints used to be a pioneer and leader of online shopping reward sites in 1996. After 2001, United Online Inc. acquired MyPoints, and this is where the negative feedback started. In 2016, Prodege, the company behind Swagbucks, bought MyPoints.
MyPoints has operated for more than 24 years, and it’s a good way to make money online on this platform. You could do your daily online activities on MyPoints to earn points, then redeem them to Amazon gift cards.
If you are also 18+ and the USA or Canada residents, congratulations, you are the main focus of MyPoints. Let’s see what you can do to earn points!

How Can You Earn Points On MyPoints?
There are many ways to earn points on MyPoints. Each one of them might only take you 5-15 minutes to complete.
Paid Surveys
This is the first thing that comes to people’s minds when they think about making money online. Yes, you can do surveys on MyPoints.
Each survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete, and it pays out 90 points per survey. Some surveys pay higher, which also means it takes longer to complete. If you got kicked out and disqualified for a survey, you still get 10 points.
There are all kinds of surveys that you can take on MyPoints, ranging from automobiles, fashion, travel to home and garden. Don’t worry that you only get a certain type of survey.
Shop
If you like shopping, this is good news for you. You can shop over 1,900 popular retailers on MyPoints to earn points from your purchase.
Tips: Spend $20 or more on any stores through MyPoints in the first 30 days of membership, and you will get 1,750 points, which are redeemable for a $10 Gift Card of your choice.
Watch Video & Play Games
You can earn points by watching video playlists on your favorite topics, and this is the easiest way to earn points on MyPoints. Or, you can play games when you feel tired and dizzy after doing lots of paid surveys.
Read Emails
Don’t you know reading emails could make money? MyPoints will send out emails to your inbox, and you earn 5 points by clicking the link inside each email. It takes about 10-15 seconds to read each email.
Search The Web
Ditch Google and do your searches on MyPoints! The results are similar to Yahoo! web search, and MyPoints gives you a chance to randomly earn up to 170 points.

Print Coupons
People have been using coupons for shopping since 1880, so I think there are no extra explanations needed here.
This is the way to combine online and offline activities to make money with MyPoints. You can choose the coupons for your preferred grocery stores.
After you choose the coupons and print them out, you go shopping with the coupons you print. Every time you shop with the MyPoints coupons, you earn 25 points and one extra point per coupon printed.
Referral Plan
You earn 25 points by referring people to join MyPoints, and you also get 10% of all points they earn. If the person you directly referred spends $20 or more shopping on MyPoints in the first 30 days, you can get an additional 750 points and 1,750 points for them.
How Much Are Points Worth?
I was curious about the value of the points, so I went to the Redemption page for more details. Once I clicked the “Go Redeem” button, I could see there were many options.
Just like I mentioned above, you get 1,750 points to exchange for a $10 Gift Card. Let’s do a quick calculation here:
- $10 Gift Card / 1750 points = $0.0057 / per point.
So, if four paid surveys(1 hour) make you 360 points, that means your hourly wage is $0.0057*360 points= $2.05. So, the potential to make a fortune by MyPoints is quite low and it’s not my top pick when it comes to making money online.
How Much You Can Earn On MyPoints?
I don’t have a fixed answer because it depends on your time and effort on MyPoints.
How much you can get paid completely depends on how many activities you complete. Meaning the more activities you do on MyPoints, the more rewards you can get. Typically, people make $20-$50 per month by GPT sites. Here are other legitimate GPT sites you can try.
What Can You Redeem Points For?
There are two ways to redeem your points once you reach the minimum threshold:
- PayPal Cash: $25 minimum payout to your PayPal account, and it takes 4-5 days to process.
- eGift Cards: $10 minimum payout for Gift Cards, you can choose your favorite stores. Redemption time varies based on the store you choose.

Who Is MyPoints For?
People who live in the USA or Canada have lots of time doing different online activities to make a few bucks back.
I value my time, so I would choose another alternative to make money online instead of MyPoints. I will share my alternative in one minute. Read on to find out more.
Ugly Truth Of MyPoints
TOP#1 Low Income Potential
As I mentioned above, 1,750 points equal a $10 gift card. One point equals $0.0057, and your hourly wage is close to $2.05. If you faced technical issues and got kicked out in the middle of any survey, you would only get 10 points.
Compared to the minimum hourly wage of the USA($7.25), you will be much better if you get a part-time job in a fast-food restaurant.
TOP#2 A Terrible Customer Service
I love to check the BBB page for the company that I write reviews to know what others complain about. Same for MyPoints. Here are what I found:

It seems that MyPoits don’t reply to all complaints in time to help members’ questions or technical issues. For a company that has operated for two decades, we expect a higher standard of customer service.
TOP#3 Only Available In the USA Or Canada
For people who land in this article but don’t live in the USA or Canada, I have to say sorry, you cannot join MyPoints.
MyPoints mainly focuses on the North American market and doesn’t get many business inquiries from your geographic location. That’s probably the reason why you cannot join MyPoints. Don’t take it personally, and it’s how MyPoints does business.

What Do I Like About MyPoints?
TOP#1 A Long History
5 out of 10 new companies cannot make it work during the first five years. When we look at MyPoints, a GPT site that has existed longer than two decades, it has the know-how to do things right for both clients and members.
TOP#2 Many Options To Earn Points
When it comes to GPT sites, people tend to think of paid surveys on the platform. However, things have changed a lot.
To avoid monotony, MyPoints does provide options to earn points, so you don’t need to worry about being bored of doing paid surveys.
What I like the most about MyPoints is that you do your online routine and earn points simultaneously. It doesn’t look like a part-time job because those tasks are things we are doing every single day.

TOP#3 On the Go
Now, you can do all of those online activities on your mobile app. No matter you are stuck in traffic, waiting for your friends on dates, or killing time when you are bored.

Is MyPoints A Scam?
No, MyPoints is not a scam. It is a legitimate GPT site that pays people who spend time doing online activities. But it’s not my top pick when it comes to making money online.
Although you could exchange 1,750 points for a $10 Amazon gift card, my biggest concern is the time we spend doing different activities on MyPoints worthy?
I believe there are better ways to replace MyPoints if you yell “YES!” in your mind!
My Alternative Way to Make Money Online
My alternative way to make money online is through Affiliate Marketing instead of doing all kinds of online activities on MyPoints.
Doing affiliate marketing offers you the below benefits:
- You don’t need to turn your online activities into your income resources.
- You don’t refer your family, friends, colleagues, or neighbors to MyPoints.
- You don’t worry about your geographic location, and you can do it every corner on this planet.
- Work on your own schedules & you are your OWN BOSS!
You only need to start a blog with quality content. So every time people land on your site to read your products reviews or other articles, they will find insight and value. If they like it, they may purchase the products or services via your links. Here come your earning potentials.

The platform I am using currently is Wealthy Affiliate. You will find all the proven-to-work training courses, every Friday night LIVE training courses, one keyword research tool called Jaaxy, 24/7 site support, and the most friendly community.

Hi Matt,
At first I thought it looked like a good company, because they still give you 10 points even if you don’t qualify for a survey, but it turns out that 10 points is not much … Earning potential is low, and you would have to spend much time online to get just a little bit of cash. That doesn’t seem worth it to me …
Good customer service is extremely important to me, and the fact that their customer service is poor is another turn off for me. The people who complained had some serious issues that do not seem to be dealt with …
I think that if you want to make money online, the more lucrative way would be affiliate marketing. It requires more work than filling out surveys, and that is why it will lead to a higher income. You want to make money, you got to work for it, right? 😉
Hi Christine,
Yes, the low earning potential is always the pain in the neck for all GPT sites, so they won’t be my top choices when it comes to making money online. I am the same as you, affiliate marketingaffiliate marketing!
People could do affiliate marketing to promote things they LOVE instead of just filling out online surveys with little returns. This is the platformthe platform that I use at the moment, feel free to check it if you have interests. 🙂
Matt
Hi Matt,
Well, I said before that I don’t like these types of businesses because the return for the time you put in is very poor – I just didn’t realise how poor..!!
US$1.50/ hour is definitely not the best use of my time!
Still, I do like your suggestions of earning some points while waiting for meal companions who are late. Over time you will make a bit of money.
But it’s certainly not something I would look to for a revenue stream!!
Cheers,
Martin.
Hi Martin,
Yes, I agree with you, and I think paid survey sites might be the last option I would make money online. Your time spent on the site is proportional to what you earn, and I hope every one could get the same conclusion as we did. It’s alright to make a few bucks when you stuck in the traffic or need to wait for your friends, but it’s not something I would invest all my time for.
The best way to make money online is still through Affiliate Marketing. You got me! 🙂
Matt
