Younique becomes trendy since they pride themselves as the first direct-sales company in the industry. You ever join some Facebook fanpages that are full of posts convincing you to buy Younique products, so you think “Can you make money by Younique?”
I believe this is the main reason why you are here on my website to know more about Younique. I have to give you a thumb up because you are doing your homework before really joining any online programs without getting scammed.
First of all, I am not associated with Younique since I don’t do makeup every morning before I go to work. So, you can trust me I am not here to sell any Younique products to you.
Secondly, what I do is to share my findings from its business opportunities and evaluate whether it’s good for me or not. My final thought is that you can make a few bucks with Younique, but it’s not enough to quit your 9-5 jobs. I will provide more details further down.
Disclaimer: As the owner of Smileaffiliatesuccess.com, I have tracked down special deals for products, tools, and services mentioned herein. When you click my affiliate links on this page to make a purchase, I may get a small commission, and you will definitely get a great bargain. This is a win-win advantage for both of us.
What is Younique?
-Summary of Younique-
Product Name: Younique(sound as “Unique”)
Founders: Derek Maxfield & Melanie Huscroft in 2012
Product Type: Cosmetics & Skincare MLM(multi-level Marketing)
Price: $99 to start
Rating: 40 / 100
Younique is founded by Derek Maxfield & Melanie Huscroft in 2012. Derek wanted to pursue another career path after NetSteps that provided software solutions for the direct sales industry. Melanie, Derek’s sister had experience in advertising & sales and she has a passion for beauty and fashion. So, Younique was born.
They produce cosmetics and encourage all presenters(representatives) to host virtual parties to maximize their earnings by Facebook groups or Instagram chats. They are proud of this modern way and this makes them stand out from the traditional MLMs.
What’s inside Younique?
Younique is basically a cosmetics brand, but they did develop the skin care product line to cover more potential business. You know it’s never enough when it comes to women’s needs for cosmetics. If you ever look at the makeup table your mom or your wife uses, you supposed to know there is no end for their cosmetics purchase.
Younique has many cosmetic items, and I won’t cover all the items in this article. I will only talk about products I can recognize or I’ve seen my friends used in the past. Otherwise, it might take too long without really focusing on Younique’s business opportunity.
- Eyes: Mascara, eyeliner, eye shadow, eye primer, etc.
- Lips: Lipstick, lip gloss, lip liner, lip stain, etc.
- Faces: Foundation, BB cream, highlight & contour, concealer, etc.
- Skincare: Cleansers, masks, moisturizers, toners, serums, etc.
- Fragrance: Perfumes/eau de toilette
- Makeup tools: Eye/lip/face brushes, fillable palettes, sponges, etc.

Does Younique Product Work?
Yes, based on Chickadvisor, the best product is Younique Moonstruck 3D Fiber Lashes Mascara. It gets 3.5/5 and ranks #12 with 430 reviews. Although it gets a good review online, Younique didn’t provide it anymore since they deceptively marketed this product is made of “100% Natural Green Tea Fibers.”
Other Younique products received negative reviews on Chickadvisor, so I think it’s better to know both good and bad reviews before we join Younique. These are some bad reviews:
How Does Younique Work?
Just like other MLMs, Younique has no exception to make you earn commissions by two main ways:
- Sell Younique products to earn retail commissions
- Recruit more people to earn extra bonuses
You can purchase a $99 presenter kit(starter kit) to start your journey with Younique. It includes a collection valued at $452 that comes with all items in the photo below. Besides that, Younique also offers $25 Y-CASH credit for your next orders.
They even create an online Younique Youniversity to help new presenters ready for unique success. New presenters are encouraged to participate in weekly online training courses to learn needed information about Younique business opportunity.
There is one thing that Younique is proud of themselves. That is the way they promote and do business. It’s called “Virtual Parties!”
Instead of hosting a home party, all presenters are encouraged to host a Facebook group/page that you invite all your Facebook friends to join and start promoting Younique Products. You could post makeup tips, the latest cosmetic technology, or free giveaways with one intent in mind: “Sell more Younique products to earn more party points!”
This kind of virtual party normally lasts 3, 5 or 10 days, so you will earn party points from your Facebook friends. Generally, a $1 product sold will bring you $1 party point. Reach at least 200 Party Points, and you’ll receive 10 percent of the total points earned in Party Rewards.
Party points can be used towards purchasing or getting half-price for your next orders of Younique products. So, the more products you sell, the more party points you’ll get, the more bonuses you’ll get.
The Compensation Plan
After reviewing many MLM business opportunities, the compensation plan from Younique is simple and easy-understanding.
When you join, you’ll start as white level, then climb the ladder up to the black level. The higher ranking you are, the more commissions you can earn.
Retail Royalties: When you are on white level, you earn a 20% of commissions from all sales you make. If you reach black, the percentage goes up to 30%.
Circle Royalties: All reaching exemplary-level presenters earn commissions on company wholesale sales. This is from 3% to 6%.
First to Third Generation Royalties: As your team gets bigger, you earn an extra 3% for the first generation’s team sales, 4% for the second generation, all the way up to 5% on the third generation.
Car Bonus: Presenters from white to orange level can earn a car bonus if they meet the requirements.
If the above doesn’t explain clearly for you, you can watch the below YouTube video.
How Much Do You Need to Sell to Stay Active?
A white-level presenter has to achieve a Personal Retail Sales (PRS) of at least $125 in sales during a rolling 3 month period to stay active. For yellow-level presenters, it gets up to $500.
If you don’t meet the requirement, your account will be considered inactive. You have 3 months to re-activate with your current Presenter ID and position. After those 3 months, you would need to sign up as a new Presenter account with Younique.
What I Liked About Younique
TOP#1 Younique on Social Media
Unlike the traditional MLMs, Younique presenters host virtual parties to promote Younique products. It’s good for introverts who are scared of face-to-face meetings.
Hosing virtual parties also saves you tons of effort and time from organizing real home parties. If you have thousands of friends & followers on Facebook or Instagram, you must go for it since it’s possible to earn you some bucks.
TOP#2 Fight Child Sexual Abuse
The Younique Foundation is founded to help adult female survivors of child sexual abuse to heal. Each month, the foundation hosts a 4-day retreat in Utah or Georgia and every female survivor can participate in a variety of activities to help you heal from the trauma of sexual abuse.
Although Younique Foundation got critics from the percentage of its charity donation, it’s better they are doing something than nothing at all.
TOP#3 Paid Quickly
As a Younique Presenter, your commission will be deposited into your own PayQuicker online bank account within 3 hours. Younique thinks you deserve every penny you earn. It’s quite impressive while other MLMs might have threshold on the payout issue.
Once your commissions reach $50, Younique provides you with your own Younique Visa® Prepaid Card.
Please note you’ll get charged $0.50 USD to transfer your money out of your PayQuicker account and there will some charges if you transfer money from Younique Visa® Prepaid Card to your preferred bank account.
Ugly Truth About Younique
TOP#1 Lawsuit Settlement
For the previous best-seller – Moonstruck 3D Fiber Lashes Mascara, Younique used to promote this product as 100% Natural Green Tea Fibers made.
In 2017, many plaintiffs claimed that instead of green tea fibers, Moonstruck mascara is made of shredded nylon fibers. In August 2019, Younique agreed to a settlement to pay $3.25 million to resolve this lawsuit, but Younique has not admitted any wrongdoing under the settlement.
TOP#2 Not Totally Cruelty-Free
I cannot find any information about animal testing on Younique website, but the company claimed they do not test products on animals. However, Younique has not conducted an in-depth cruelty-free review tracing each ingredient back to such ingredient’s original source at this time.
When you compare Younique products to other similar products you can find anywhere, it’s easy to find out Younique is pricey.
I know it’s the nature of any MLM companies – selling overpriced products, but it gets harder to promote pricey products when people have their own preferred brands already.
Who Is Younique For?
Women who love cosmetics, makeups, or skincare products. If you have thousands of friends or followers on both Facebook & Instagram like an influencer, Younique will be something you should try.
If not, I suggest you try other ways to make money online and I will reveal my alternative in one minute!
Can You Make Money By Younique?
Yes, definitely. Younique grew quickly to 100,000 members and made $35 million in 2014. There must be someone who made a good living with Younique’s compensation plan.
For example, the lady in the Youtube video below. She mentioned she made a 6-figure income but she quitted eventually. I know you are curious about the reasons, so enjoy it!
Is Younique A Scam?
No! Younique is not a scam at all. It has legitimate products that received good reviews on the internet, and it teaches the members how to host virtual parties with needed marketing skills. They are far from being a scam.
But, before you sign up with Younique, I hope you think twice and consider other ways to make money online. For me, I won’t become a Younique presenter since I am not personally using cosmetics and makeup tools, so chances are that I might lose more money than I earn in the long run.
My alternative to making money is affiliate marketing, and this is exactly what I am doing at the moment.
My Alternative Way to Make Money Online
My alternative way to make money online is through Affiliate Marketing instead of promoting Younique products on Facebook/Instagram. Try to imagine you sell Younique’s products to your friends, family, or anyone you know on Facebook, don’t you feel awkward?
I do! But, doing affiliate marketing will save you from that!
You don’t even need to buy any physical or digital products and sell to someone face to face. You also don’t need to convince people to join you as you downlines to build a team.
You only need to create a website or YouTube channel with quality content that makes people trust you then purchase them through your links.
The platform I am using currently is Wealthy Affiliate. The reasons are all the training courses, every Friday night LIVE training courses, 24/7 sitesupport, and the most friendly community.
