What’s Inside This Post?
If you are looking for ways to make money online, here are five safer places to begin with.
Paid Survey Sites or Get-Paid-To Sites
This is the first thing that comes to people’s minds when they try to make money online. What is the reason? It’s simple and easy.
- You can complete the task on your bed, your couch, or any places you feel comfortable.
- You can do it anytime or even when you are stuck in the traffic or waiting for your friends.
- Sometimes, the task is just like what we do online every day and it’s fun.
“How does this work?” I know you are going to ask next. Many international brands want to receive real user experience from their customers to develop next-gen products or improve the current service, so they request the 3rd parties like survey sites to do the works for them.
All you need to do is to offer your honest comments to get cash or points back. Those paid survey sites give your answers to international brands and get paid. Those international brands get real feedback. So, everyone wins.
You can make either cash or points by doing lots of your daily online activities such as online searches, online surveys, watch videos, shopping, etc. After you reach the minimum payout threshold, you may redeem your points or cash by PayPal or gift cards.
Here are some survey sites that I’ve reviewed. You can try them to get your first bite of “Making money online from home.”
Freelancing
It’s time to turn something you are good at into an extra income resource. In recent years, the millennial’s concept of “be a slash” got viral on social media. They embrace the life of mixed professional identities, such as a lawyer/journalist, pianist/cook, or English teacher/graphic designer. Slashes are people who pursue multiple careers with not only one income source but multiple.
I love this concept so much that I implemented it in my career path. I currently work in an international manufacturing company in sales and have a part-time job as a graphic designer & a blogger.
Not only it brings me another income source, but it does sharpen my skills and force me to step outside my comfort zone.
Here are the famous platforms where you could pursue a freelancing/slash life:
- Fiverr.com
- Upwork.com
- Guru.com
- CloudPeeps.com

Create Your Own Courses
According to Global Industry Analysts, the online education market will grow from $107 billion in 2015 to $325 billion in 2025. I guess you can understand why I am mentioning this.
Once you have expertise in something or are good at something, you could create your own online training courses to teach people interested in the same skill. You can create ebooks, tutorial videos, or slides to share with your students to create online courses.
Here are some platforms that allow you to build online courses on topics of your choosing:
- Udemy
- Teachable
- Podia
- Thinkific
- Teachery
Multi-level Marketing(Direct Sales)
Yes, you didn’t hear me wrong. I know people have different thoughts about multi-leveling marketing, but we cannot deny that some people earn decent money from this business model and the compensation plan.
There are thousands of MLM programs in the industry, and it takes time to find out the legitimate ones to achieve your financial goal. Right? I guess this is the first question that pops out from your head when you think about this. You don’t know which one to invest time and effort in.
I am not associated with any MLMs listed below, and they are just some examples if you love the products and want to share with your family, friends, colleagues, or neighbors.
Only when you have huge enthusiasm for the products from a specific MLM, it gets easier to make money through multi-level marketing.

Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is my favorite, and it’s the best way to make money online to achieve long-term success.
Doing affiliate marketing doesn’t require you to do face-to-face selling and recruiting like MLMs, and you don’t need to worry that your family, friends, or neighbors will avoid you ever since.
You only need to start a blog and create quality content constantly to solve people’s problems. If you also know how to do SEO, keyword researches, or Pinterest marketing to rank your posts higher on search engines, you would have more chances to make money online through affiliate marketing.

Remember, affiliate marketing is not a “make-money-quick” scheme. For those who only search for quick & easy money, affiliate marketing is not the answer that suits your needs.
If you are like me, shy & introvert & love to connect with people online, there is indeed the best chance for you to make it work.

Hi, Matt,
I am one of those people who have learned from your article what a slash is in terms of professions 🙂
With our world becoming more and more interconnected, I think it’s natural that we manage to combine many different professions in one personality.
My online journey has first started a few years ago on survey sites but this method didn’t work out for me due to different reasons. There had been always something wrong, like my geographical location, or payment method not suitable.
What’s your experience with survey sites?
I must agree that this article comes right on time, thank you for taking the time to put it together!
Best Wishes,
Natalie
Hi Natalie,
I love to see you back! 🙂
Yes, being a slash is more like fulfilling myself instead of just make more money to me, and I suggest everyone tries to do this to find out what they are capable of in their lives. Maybe it will open another window to the career path.
My experience with survey sites is not good enough to keep me stay with them because I was like you. There are not many available surveys for me due to the geographic location, or my hobbies or habits don’t meet the requirements. I gave up and turned to affiliate marketing in the end, which is my favorite now.
Cheers,
Matt
I’ve never heard of the word “slash” before, but now I know that I’m definitely one! 😉 Fiver is a popular site. I have used it to find book cover designers.
Udemy is a good platform to create courses. I don’t know the others that well yet. Which one do you recommend the most? Does each platform offer all the tools you need in order to prepare professional looking courses?
I think my favorite is also affiliate marketing. I have a few websites and while I’m still growing them, I enjoy working on them. Wealthy Affiliate hosts my websites, and they give excellent hosting, support and training. If anyone is interested in getting started in affiliate marketing, I would definitely also recommend signing up for Wealthy Affiliate.
Hi Christine,
I love to see you back. 🙂 I am only using Udemy from the five I provided in this article, and I will say Udemy is my favorite so far. The rest four do offer similar supports to people who want to create many professional-looking online courses, you could try to browse one by one for more details.
Thanks again for backing my up about Wealthy Affiliate. It’s quite nice to connect with likely-minded people on the internet, and the reason is very simple I believe – Wealthy Affiliate does a good job to support its premium members to achieve the goals they set or exceed the goals.
If you are interested in the platform we are happily talking about, please feel free to check my FULL review HERE.
You are welcome,
Matt
Hi Matt,
I’ve been a ‘Slash’ for years without ever knowing it – this is the first time I’ve heard that expression..!!
However, I think being a Slash is absolutely the best way to start a home or online business. It’s how I started back in 2006 – I was working for a telco here in HK and started teaching myself how to build websites on the side. That is now my primary source of income, although I do still do telecom consulting projects.
A very timely article given the damage to the global economy caused by Covid-19.
Cheers,
Martin.
Hi Martin,
Thanks for coming back and leaving your honest feedback. I believe people are suffering from Covid-19, so it will be useful to share my experiences at the moment.
It’s indeed the best way that people could start making extra money online by their passions, hobbies, or skills. I love you share with us that you are generating an income from your website, and it’s an excellent example from you.
Keep up the good work!
Matt
