During this hard time of Covid-19, there are more and more people are forced to stay at home. I am sure you might worry about your saving is not enough to support your daily expenses, so I am writing this “5 Ways To Make Money Online From Home.”

Overall speaking, the ways listed in this article are not something new. They exist on the internet for a long time, and I am providing you the most legitimate websites to protect you from being scammed by the wrong hands. I hope you could make money online successfully to pay the bills or generate a nice passive income to replace your 9-5 jobs with a big smile.

What’s inside this article?

If you are looking for ways to make money online, here are the safer places to begin:

1. Paid Survey Sites.

This is the first thing that comes to people’s minds when they try to google for ways to make money online. What is the reason? It’s simple and easy.

  1. You can complete the task on your bed, your couch, or any places you feel comfortable.
  2. You can do them at any time or when you are stuck in the traffic or waiting for your friends.
  3. Sometimes, the task is just like what we do online every day and it’s fun.

“How does this work?” I know you are going to ask next. Many international brands want to receive the real feedback from their target demographics to develop next-gen products or improve the current service, so they request the 3rd parties like survey sites to do the works for them.

All you need to do is to offer your honest feedback to get cash or points. Those paid survey sites give your feedback to international brands and get paid. Those international brands get real feedback. So, everyone wins.

You can make either cash or points by doing lots of your daily online activities such as online searches, paid surveys, watch videos, shopping, etc. After you reach the minimum payout threshold, you may redeem your points or cash by PayPal or e-giftcards.

Here are some survey sites that I’ve reviewed, you can try them to get your first bite of “Making money online from home”.

  1. Swagbucks
  2. Inbox Dollars
  3. Vindale Research
  4. Prize Rebel
  5. Survey Junkie

2. Freelancing

It’s time to turn something you are good at for an extra income resource. In recent years, the concept of “be a slash” got viral on social media by the millennial. They embrace the life of a mixed professional identity such as a lawyer/journalist, pianist/cook, or English teacher/graphic designer. Slashes are people who pursue multiple careers with not only one income resource but many.

I love this concept so much that I implemented in my career path. I currently work in an international manufacturing company as sales and have a part-time job as a graphic designer. Although this part-time job was requested by my previous employer, I believe it still counts for freelancing or being a slash. Not only it brings me another income resource, but it does sharpen my skills and forcing myself to step outside my comfort zone.

Here are the famous platforms where you could pursue a freelancing/slash life:

  1. Fiverr.com
  2. Upwork.com
  3. Guru.com
  4. CloudPeeps.com

3. Create Your Own Courses

According to Global Industry Analysts, the online education market will grow from $107 billion in 2015 to $325 billion in 2025. I guess you can understand why I am talking about this now.

Once you gain much experience for one certain skill(after 10,000 hours), you could go further to create your own digital training courses that teach people who are also interested in the same skill. To create digital courses, you can either make a PDF file, tutorial videos, or slides to share with your students.

Here are some platforms that allow you to build online courses on topics of your choosing:

  1. Udemy
  2. Teachable
  3. Podia
  4. Thinkific
  5. Teachery

4. Multi-level Marketing(Direct Sales)

Yes, you didn’t hear me wrong. I know people do have different thoughts about multi-leveling marketing but we cannot deny that people do earn money from this business model and the compensation plan.

There are thousands of MLM programs in the industry, and it takes time to find out the legitimate ones to achieve your financial goal. Right? I guess this is the first question poped out from your head when you are about to start your MLM career. You just don’t know which one to invest time and effort in.

I am not associated with any of MLMs listed below, and they are just some examples if you do love the products and want to share with your family, friends, colleagues, or your neighbors. Only when you have huge enthusiasm for the products from a specific MLM, it gets easier to make money through multi-level marketing.

-Beauty and Cosmetics-

-Essential Oils-

-Weight Loss Programs-

5. Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is my favorite, and it’s the best way to make money online with a long term success.

Doing affiliate doesn’t require you to do face-to-face selling and recruiting like MLMs, and you don’t need to worry that your family, friends or neighbors will avoid you ever since. You only need to build a website and create content constantly with a well-implemented SEO for organic traffic. Then, you will see the positive results if you keep repeating the process with patience.

The Process of Affiliate Marketing

Remember affiliate marketing is not a “make-money-quick” scheme. For those who only search for quick money, affiliate marketing is not the answer that suits your needs. If you are like me, shy & introvert & love to connect with people online, there is indeed a chance for you to make it work.

  1. Hi Matt,

I’ve been a ‘Slash’ for years without ever knowing it – this is the first time I’ve heard that expression..!!

However, I think being a Slash is absolutely the best way to start a home or online business. It’s how I started back in 2006 – I was working for a telco here in HK and started teaching myself how to build websites on the side. That is now my primary source of income, although I do still do telecom consulting projects.

A very timely article given the damage to the global economy caused by Covid-19.

    • Hi Martin,

Thanks for coming back and leaving your honest feedback. I believe people are suffering from Covid-19, so it will be useful to share my experiences at the moment.

It’s indeed the best way that people could start making extra money online by their passions, hobbies, or skills. I love you share with us that you are generating an income from your website, and it’s an excellent example from you.

      Keep up the good work!

  2. I’ve never heard of the word “slash” before, but now I know that I’m definitely one! 😉 Fiver is a popular site. I have used it to find book cover designers.
Udemy is a good platform to create courses. I don’t know the others that well yet. Which one do you recommend the most? Does each platform offer all the tools you need in order to prepare professional looking courses?
I think my favorite is also affiliate marketing. I have a few websites and while I’m still growing them, I enjoy working on them. Wealthy Affiliate hosts my websites, and they give excellent hosting, support and training. If anyone is interested in getting started in affiliate marketing, I would definitely also recommend signing up for Wealthy Affiliate.

    • Hi Christine,

I love to see you back. 🙂 I am only using Udemy from the five I provided in this article, and I will say Udemy is my favorite so far. The rest four do offer similar supports to people who want to create many professional-looking online courses, you could try to browse one by one for more details.

Thanks again for backing my up about Wealthy Affiliate. It’s quite nice to connect with likely-minded people on the internet, and the reason is very simple I believe – Wealthy Affiliate does a good job to support its premium members to achieve the goals they set or exceed the goals.

If you are interested in the platform we are happily talking about, please feel free to check my FULL review HERE.

      You are welcome,

  3. Hi, Matt,

I am one of those people who have learned from your article what a slash is in terms of professions 🙂

With our world becoming more and more interconnected, I think it’s natural that we manage to combine many different professions in one personality.

My online journey has first started a few years ago on survey sites but this method didn’t work out for me due to different reasons. There had been always something wrong, like my geographical location, or payment method not suitable.

What’s your experience with survey sites?

I must agree that this article comes right on time, thank you for taking the time to put it together!

    Best Wishes,

    • Hi Natalie,

I love to see you back! 🙂

Yes, being a slash is more like fulfilling myself instead of just make more money to me, and I suggest everyone tries to do this to find out what they are capable of in their lives. Maybe it will open another window to the career path.

My experience with survey sites is not good enough to keep me stay with them because I was like you. There are not many available surveys for me due to the geographic location, or my hobbies or habits don’t meet the requirements. I gave up and turned to affiliate marketing in the end, which is my favorite now.
